Centralia Swimming Pool beside former Drill Hall

Leading Aircraftman Gordon Harold Wilson RAAF
On June 13, 1943, 33 Australians commenced training at No. 9 Service Flying Training School, Centralia, Ontario, Canada, becoming the first from their country to train at the school. Sadly, one Australian would lose his life July 25, 1943. Leading Aircraftman Gordon Harold Wilson was on a night flying exercise in Anson 7291. While making a turn in the circuit, Wilson apparently became disoriented by ground fog and the aircraft that he was piloting crashed about four miles North West of the airport. A memorial service was held at Trivitt Memorial Church with internment in the Exeter Cemetery.
